There is a Red Cross Blood Drive tomorrow from 1 PM to 6 PM in the BFLC.  If you can donate blood or a few hours to help, please stop by. 

WANTED ~ old maps:  These will be used for a VBS craft, so will not be able to be returned.  Please drop them off in the Sunday School Office.

VBS registration is available on-line at our web-site.  There will also be a table set up in the foyer this morning.  If you would like to
register here, please stop by. 

Our Daily Bread devotionals are available at the Tract Rack.  Large print (for months of July, Aug, Sept) are also now available. 

FREE Concert Tickets for the Jason Gray concert to be held here on August 5th, are available at the Information Desk this morning. 

Please note that next Sunday during the Sunday School hour, a First Baptist “Safe Church Class” will be held in the BFLC.  This is a
requirement for all volunteers who work with children and youth (Unit #7 in clearance packet).  Please plan on attending this class if you have not yet been to one of the classes that have been held recently.

Beginner Music Training ~ In an effort to raise up and train more musicians, youth & adults, a few of the Praise Team members will be
providing music training for “beginners” over the summer.  They will explain/teach different elements of the Praise Band instruments and how to improve musical skills in a Praise Band setting.  The meetings will most likely be once a week in the evenings.  If interested, please circle M on your connect card, or call the church office with questions. 
 

You may now pick up a soup can bank in the foyer.  Fill it with summer change which will be used to buy glasses and fluoride for our next Haiti trip.   Get the whole family involved by putting your bank in a place where everyone will see it and share their extra change.  When your can is full, you can return it to the Information Desk and get another one if you so desire!!  Cans need to be returned by
September 13. 

 The Mission’s Board is partnering with Christian Resources International, an organization that collects books and Bibles to ship around the world.  If you would like to donate gently used books and Bibles, please place them in the tubs located in the chapel hallway downstairs.  Books will be collected throughout the summer. 

 An opportunity here at home:  Our Care & Concern Ministry tries to help   people in our own church in a variety of ways (light cleaning, moving,
etc).  One of the greatest needs is providing a meal when needed.  If this is something you could do, please contact the office.

SUNDAY, JUNE 14, 2015

On-line registration is available for VBS, but you can register this morning in the BFLC at the VBS table.  Don’t forget to pick up a VBS prayer sheet for the month of June at the back of the church as well as door hangers to use as invitations. 
 

Sign up today if you would like to go on the Field Trip to the GAiN Warehouse.  The bus leaves at 7 AM on Tuesday, June 16.  
Participants will help pack used clothing, school supplies, seeds, rice & beans, make Gospel bead bracelets, and prepare other humanitarian aid for shipment to those in need around the world. The bus will leave FBC parking lot at 7 AM and return around 8 PM.  Snacks and lunch are provided by GAiN.  Everyone buys their own dinner.  A sign-up sheet is posted on the ramp bulletin board.

Sunday, June 7, 2015 ~ Graduation Sunday

DHS Baccalaureate Service ~ 7 PM in the DMS Auditorium  Baccalaureate is a student-planned, but voluntary event to celebrate the spiritual aspects of Graduation. You are encouraged to come out tonight and support the students who attend. Pastor Dawes has been invited to speak and our church will be providing refreshments after the Baccalaureate Service. If you have cookies/brownies to donate for the refreshments, please bring them to the Baccalaureate Service.
  

Today is Barnabas Sunday Please place your donations of canned fruit in the basket in the foyer. If making a monetary donation, make checks out to Danville Area Food Bank.

M & M Tubes are due next Sunday. Please return tubes even if they are not completely full. Make sure to sign up on the ramp bulletin board if you plan on going along to GAiN Warehouse on Tuesday, June 16. The bus will leave FBC at 7 AM and return around 8 PM. Lunch and snacks will be provided with each person purchasing their own dinner on the way home.

Because next Sunday is Graduation Sunday, Communion will be held on June 14th.  The Fellowship Fund Offering will also be received on June 14th. Pastor Luke will be sharing in both services next Sunday, with the graduates being recognized during the 10:30 service.
 

High School Graduates and their parents are invited to the Graduation Banquet next Sunday, June 7, following the morning services. If you have not yet signed up, please stop by the Information Desk this morning or call the church office.

If you have a college graduate in your family please stop by the Information Desk this morning and fill out an information form so we are able to recognize all of our college graduates.

If your children have enjoyed Children’s Church recently, new volunteers are needed to keep it going through the months of June and July. If you can help, please visit today or next Sunday to see what happens and talk to Lorna Griffin or Sonya Dudinskie if you need further information.
 

A trip to the GAiN Warehouse is planned for June 16. All are invited to go along. The day will be spent packing food, clothes, school supplies and medicines. The bus will leave the church at 7 AM and return around 8 PM. A sign-up sheet is on the ramp bulletin board. M & M tubes are available at the Information Desk that you can take to fill with quarters to help purchase supplies for this project. Please return all tubes before June 16.

Please contact Pastor Dawes no later than Wednesday, May 27 for questions or if you are able to help. THANK YOU!
 
There has been some interest expressed for the start of a community garden here at First Baptist Church.  The intent is to donate the produce to our local food banks and any surplus would be divided among the volunteers.  If you are interested, please add your name and contact information to the sign up sheet on the bulletin board or  write ‘community garden’ on the bulletin connect card. 

 

Reminder ~ All volunteers working with children & youth must complete Mandated Clearances and Training in the next few weeks, so they are processed by July 1.    Packets are available on a table in the foyer and in the downstairs chapel hallway. One of the requirements is attending a FBC Safe Church Training Session (Unit 7).  With VBS approaching, two dates have been set.  Everyone helping with VBS needs to attend one of these meetings.  If you aren’t helping with VBS, but have not yet attended this training, you are also invited to attend the training part of the evening. Tuesday, May 26, in the Chapel, 6:30 PMTuesday, June 2, in the Chapel, 6:30 PM. Volunteers under 18 years of age must attend this training also, along with completing a Volunteer application (Unit 1) and providing a picture ID (Unit 6).

M & M tubes can be returned anytime before the GAiN team goes to the Warehouse on June 16.  Quarters in these tubes will cover the cost of rice, beans, and seeds packed by God’s Girls and all who go along on June 16th.  Drop off your filled M & M tubes at the Information Desk or pick up an empty one if you would like to participate.   If you are age 7 and older you are invited to go along on the GAiN trip.  This is a great activity for families as younger children need to be accompanied by a parent.  There is a sign-up on the ramp bulletin board. 

The Deaconesses will hold a brief meeting in the Conference Room next week, May 24, from 10:00-10:30 AM.

  A new study is starting on May 27th for all ladies ~ “The Family of Jesus” by Karen Kingsbury.  Please sign up at the table in the foyer this morning and pick up a book.  The cost of books is $15.00.  Babysitting will be provided if reservations are made.  Please indicate if you need babysitting when you sign up.  This six week study. will be here at FBC from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM  through July 1.
 
The Fella’s Fellowship will meet simultaneously with the Ladies Bible Study May 27 to July 1 at 6:30 PM in the Conference Room across the hall from the church office. We will be studying A Man and His Design, six sessions that explore the basic foundations of authentic manhood and God’s clear design for men.

Ladies — Happy Mother’s Day! In honor and memory of our mothers from Danville First Baptist Church, we are making a contribution to three local Pregnancy Care Centers in our area.  This is something we did last year and our moms wanted to do it again.  THANKS to all our moms for their loving hearts and for having a heart for moms who need encouragement!

 Please PRAY for the 15 people going to SURGE, the Young Adult Conference at Harvey Cedars, next weekend.  They leave on Friday and will be joining almost 200 other young adults, representing 14 churches.

Please join us at noon, this Thursday, May 7, as we gather on the courthouse steps to pray for our nation, joining with others praying today on this National Day of Prayer.
 

  All single ladies (single, widowed, divorced) who are 20 years old or older, are invited to attend a Premier Gala Event at 12:30 in the BFLC on May 17th.   Join us as we walk the red carpet and step back in time to Old Hollywood. Don’t forget to wear your pearls.

Ultimate Frisbee beginning soon: Thad Neidrick is organizing ultimate Frisbee to be played on the church lawn. If you would enjoy playing, please contact the church office.
 
Join the gang going to the GAiN Warehouse in Mount Joy, PA, on Tuesday, June 16. We’ll be packing school supplies, rice & beans, used clothing, gospel bead bracelets, and medical supplies. Lunch and snacks are provided by GAiN. Dinner will be on you. The school bus will be leaving the church parking lot at 7 AM. Return at 8 PM. Sign up on the ramp bulletin board. Folks age 7-80+ are welcome. This is a fun event for families!! Please call the office if you have questions.
 
100 small soup cans are needed for a mission’s project. Please put them in the labeled tub in the downstairs hallway outside the chapel. Think recipes that require soup, and help fill up the tub.

Tonight is local mission’s night at 6 PM in the BFLC.  Howard Long will share about his ministry at the Buckhorn Truck Stop Chapel.  
Aemon Shoff will also share about his plan to provide food here in Danville, using a trailer that can be moved around town.  Please bring a dessert to share and come learn about these two ministries close to home. 
 

Spring Business Meeting ~ Wednesday, April 29, at 6:30 PM in the Sanctuary. Be sure to come to our quarterly church gathering to be informed on our ministries and finances and to be updated on some of the input gleaned from our recent Mini-Flock Fellowships.  One major point of discussion will be about our Sunday morning schedule. 

  1. Do we need to adjust our service times to better accomplish our Mission of being “A Community in Christ, Reaching our Community for Christ?
  2. Why or Why not?
  3. What would be the best schedule to accomplish this?

Please be praying for the “unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” in our discussion and plan on attending Wednesday night. 

 

M & M tubes are available for you to take this morning.  Each tube holds up to 56 quarters or $14 which will be used to purchase rice, beans and seeds for GAiN Warehouse.  A trip to GAiN to help pack these items will be scheduled the week of June 15th.  Please return the M & M tubes June 7th & 14th.   Please save small soup cans for a future mission’s project.  These can be placed in the marked tub in the chapel hallway. 

 

All volunteers who have direct contact with children & youth in our church need to complete the state mandated clearances. Please visit our web-site at www.danvillefirstbaptist.org to find out more information regarding this process.  Click on “Resources” and then “Safe Church” where you will see detailed instructions about what you need to do.  Also pick up a packet at the table in the foyer for further instructions.  Please call the office if you need help completing any of the units.  The challenge has been given to all SBS teachers and VBS Workers to complete these steps by the end of May.  Please call the office if you have any questions.  In addition to the on-line applications, we are encouraging you to attend one of the following sessions regarding safety procedures at First Baptist Church:
